Capital

The capital of Tuscany is Florence, it is also the largest city of Tuscany and has about half a million inhabitants.

Climate/ weather

Tuscany has a Mediterranean climate. Winter in Tuscany is temperate, warm in summer and spring and autumn is rainy. The region benefits from the gentle air that enters from the Tyrrhenian Sea and the protection of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

A large part of the coastal area of Maremma, a swampy region, is drained and cultured. Most industrial activity takes place in small factories. One-third of industrial workers are employed in the wool and textile industry around Prato, Empoli, Florence, Arezzo and Montevarchi. Tuscany is one of the most important mining regions of Italy. Livorno is a major trading center and is the largest port in Tuscany. Obviously tourism is also an important source of income in Tuscany.
